Approximately one in seven men father children with more than one partner by the age of 40. This pattern of multiple-partner fertility varies by fathers? age, race, socioeconomic status, marital status, family of origin, history of problem behaviors, and characteristics of previous children that they fathered. This fact sheet discusses the importance and implications of multiple-partner fertility in which the limited body of research suggests that it can have negative consequences for fathers, partners, and children.
