In the Parenting Wisely: Young Children video series, the first three family scenarios are presented in which young children, aged 3-5, don't comply when they are told to stop doing something. In scenario one, a child is trying to get the parent's attention by interrupting the mother when she is on the telephone. Scenario two depicts a tantrum in the grocery store when a young child's demands for treats are denied. The third scene shows a parent having trouble getting a child off to bed. Effective and non-effective methods, routinely used by parents to deal with these challenges, are shown and critiqued.

The second four family scenarios depict common parenting challenges with 6-9 year old children. Included are scenes showing conflict with peers and siblings, and parent-child conflict over daily routines such as doing homework and getting ready for school in the morning. Parents demonstrate thoughtful, creative responses to these challenges via a number of readily-learned parenting skills. Ineffective responses are also shown and critiqued.

The Parenting Wisely: Young Children Video Series includes: 1 DVD or 2 Videotapes; 1 Service Provider's Guide; 3 Young Children parent workbooks; 1 Poster announcing availability of Parenting Wisely; and 1 Floppy disc with evaluation forms, scoring keys, and program evaluation guide (Videotape/VHS version only).
