This implementation manual is intended to express the program philosophy, assist with selection of facilitators and families, help with implementation of the weekly sessions, and serve as a measure for success for the Nurturing Program for Teenage Parents and Their Families, which enhances teenagers' abilities to care for themselves, others, and their children in functional, nonabusive ways. In addition to being teenagers and parents, teen parents are usually also encumbered with the roles of daughter or son, and perhaps wife or husband. The art of raising healthy children is discussed using a list of building blocks of parenting. The 20-session group program or the 40-session home-based intensive program is designed to promote positive nurturing interactions between teen parents and their children. A description of the program is given, with general and specific program goals. Program formats and expectations of participants are laid out. Lesson plans for each weekly session and lists of materials to be used are included. Various assessment tools are demonstrated. Troubleshooting tips, group growth techniques, optional activities, and dropout prevention methods are also discussed. 24 references.
