ZERO TO THREE has teamed up with YouTube star La Guardia Cross to create “Daddy Matters,” a 4-part web series that explores why dads matter and what matters to dads. These videos can also serve as powerful tools for those who work with dads to show them they are not alone, and to open up important discussions on a range of issues around fatherhood. That’s why we have created a discussion guide for each episode that provides questions to serve as conversation-starters and offers a range of resources related to the topics covered in each video.

Programs designed specifically to support fathers in their role as parents are relatively new to the policy landscape. The available evidence suggeststhat recruiting and retaining fathers in parenting programs is a challenge, and even less research has examined theeffectiveness of such programs. The intent of the study was to compare the effects of the Circle Parents peer support network on fathers of young children receiving Head Start/Early Start services to fathers waitlisted for those services. 102 fathers were recruited to participate. Using randomization, fathers assigned to a “treatment group” were strongly encouraged to attend Circle of Parents group and received regular invitations and notifications of group meetings and activities for about a year. In August 2015, the HHS Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) awarded the New Hampshire Department of Education a multi-year Pregnancy Assistance Fund (PAF) Program grant to support teen fathers and their families. Training Materials Fathers and mothers who interact positively with each other contribute to their child’s positive development in several ways. Young parents can interact positively as romantic partners or as co-parents. While these two aspects of parents’ relationships are related, co-parenting (e.g., the ability to support each other’s needs as parents) is particularly important for children’s positive development because it directly involves the child.
