Journal Article This paper describes an exploratory study of 17 custodial and 18 noncustodial fathers that addressed how fathers get custody, how situations where fathers get custody differ from those where they do not, and how satisfactory father placements are. Data suggest that the father may not be a very good placement resource for his maltreated child because he, like the child's mother, has not escaped many of the syndromes or behaviors that are often associated with maltreatment. This paper discusses the process for obtaining grant funds, focusing on a specific project that provides support to pregnant and parenting teens. The paper describes events leading up to the award, and the nature of request for proposals (RFP). Grant proposals should cover: a statement of need; methodology; data collection and analysis; evaluation; and budget.
