Journal Article Department of Defense (DoD) surveys were examined to develop a demographic profile of military families affected by divorce and remarriage. It appears that a substantial portion of military personnelhave experienced divorce, are in remarriages, and have nonresidential children, particularly given the young average age of military personnel. Compared to the U.S. population, service members marry, divorce, and remarry earlier. This picture book explains the deployment of fathers in the Navy and explores the feelings of their children when they are gone. Told through the viewpoint of a little girl, it discusses the hardship children face while fathers are away, the importance of the work fathers do in the military, and welcoming fathers home. A list of reflective questions is provided to probe children's feelings about deployment.
