Taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) estimates that one in five adult Americans (ages 18 and older) will experience a mental health problem this year.

This NRFC webinar focused on ways in which fatherhood programs can talk with fathers about mental health issues. Specifically, it provided tips on helping fathers identify and address mental health and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) issues, talk about ways to address misperceptions about “mental illness,” and look at strategies to encourage prevention, resilience, and recovery.

Goals of Webinar:

After this training webinar, participants will improve their knowledge and understanding of:

  • The types of mental health issues that fathers may experience.
  • Assessment tools to help fatherhood practitioners identify mental health issues.
  • Tips to engage fathers in reflective conversations designed to break down misperceptions and encourage prevention, resilience, and recovery.
  • Ways in which fatherhood programs can develop referral networks of culturally competent providers.
  • Helpful resources for fatherhood programs and fathers.
