This resource guide is designed to assist social service programs in developing evidence-based programs. It begins by explaining concepts underpinning evidence-based practice and highlighting the use of practices that have demonstrated efficacy in improving participant outcomes. Evidence-based programming is defined as specific programmatic activities and processes which appear to be related to positive outcomes for program participants. Section 1 of the report focuses on project conceptualization and reviews programming decisions that will have a long term impact on the project. It provides guidelines for developing a project champion, needs assessment and asset mapping, building community partnerships and commitment, project design, and program evaluation. Section 2 presents guidelines for implementing an evidence-based program, including recommended practices for hiring project staff, staff training, the modification of an evidence-based program model or practice, recruitment of participants retention of participants, staff supports, implementation of a project evaluation, sustaining community partnerships, providing technical assistance, and project continuation. 17 references.
