This article discusses problems that may occur in infants born with cleft lip/palate and/or craniofacial syndromes. For example, an infant's feeding and swallowing skills may be significantly impaired, which can have serious implications for their respiratory health. The article reviews descriptive reports, expert opinion, and available evidence from clinical trials to support the use of feeding interventions during treatment and the provision of early feeding instructions to families.
