This guide provides new fathers with strategies and advice for caring for their babies the first 12 months. It begins with a list of the top ten things every new father should do, an explanation of what first-time dads should expect, and a description of the qualities of a good father and different types of fathers. Chapters 2 through 4 review how to prepare for a baby, baby basics the first few days, and baby temperament, sleep patterns, and baby clothes. Chapters 5 through 8 describe infant development and parenting strategies for newborn babies, the second and third month, months four through seven, and months eight through twelve. Chapter 9 discusses coping with the crying and gas of typical babies, and Chapter 10 covers the challenges of fussy babies. Infant nutrition is considered in Chapter 11, and Chapter 12 discusses sleep schedules. Chapters 13 and 14 provide criteria for choosing a pediatrician and give advice on pediatrician visits. Common medical problems are reviewed in Chapter 16. Following chapters address parenting economics and expenses, using technology to share news about infants, grandparenting the first year, and toddler child development.
