The Dominic Fuentes Project: The County of San Bernardino Preschool Services Department Fatherhood Engagement Program. Program Guide.

This document is designed to provide the California County of San Bernardino Preschool Services Department (PSD) with guidance for implementing effective site level engagement of fathers and father figures. The PSD Fatherhood Engagement Program aims to impact the culture of each PSD site to be naturally supportive of fathers and their involvement in their child's education. Specific ways the Fatherhood Engagement Program will assist PSD in achieving the Cradle to Career regional goal of the San Bernardino Countywide Vision are discussed and include ways the program will: educate fathers on their direct impact on student dropout rates and foster a mentality of parent advocacy, provide a guide for staff to effectively engage fathers while linking the fathers with community resources, teach fathers that they are their child's first teacher and advocate and the need to spend time with their child in order to support their child's learning, and encourage fathers to set goals and establish Family Partnership Agreements to assist their families in achieving social and economic success. An appendix includes resources for engaging fathers, a sample of a Family Partnership Agreement, and suggestions for father-child activities.
