Dr. Matisa Wilbon is a wife, mother, scholar and consultant. 

Dr. Wilbon earned her B.A. in Anthropology/Sociology from Centre College (Danville, KY).  She received her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from The Ohio State University (Columbus, OH). 

A tenured associate professor, she teaches university courses centered on her research interests:  Introduction to Sociology, Crime and the Media, Juvenile Delinquency, Race and Ethnicity and Structural Inequality.  Dr. Wilbon has a unique way of communicating her scholarship practically to transform families and communities.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Wilbon is an active researcher.  She has conducted research on substance prevention and intervention and neighborhood violence prevention, publishing articles in these areas. 

Dr. Wilbon is currently an associate researcher and senior writer for Father’s Incorporated, (FI) a national, non-profit organization working to build stronger families and communities through the promotion of responsible fatherhood. Established in 2004, FI works collaboratively with organizations around the country to identify and advocate for social and legislative changes that lead to healthy father involvement with children, regardless of the father’s marital or economic status and/or geographic location.

Dr. Wilbon is the CEO of Wilbon Enterprises (WE), a consulting firm specializing in grant writing and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategic planning and training. She travels extensively consulting with non-profit organizations, creating and implementing DEI plans and facilitating DEI training. 

Lastly, Dr. Wilbon is the wife of Mr. Lawrence Wilbon, Business and Development Director for Fathers Incorporated. They have two children: Deshawn and Taiya Wilbon.
