David Cozart, Director, Lexington Leadership Foundation Fatherhood Initiative

David J. Cozart, MTH, has been in the fatherhood field for nearly 30 years. His service is currently through the Lexington Leadership Foundation Fatherhood Initiative. Over time he has coordinated multiple efforts and programs aimed at enhancing fatherhood engagement, including the emerging Commonwealth Center for Fathers and Families, which is poised to promote programming across Kentucky. Under his leadership, the Fatherhood Initiative has served thousands of fathers, children, and families. The work was most recently recognized through the receipt of the 2020 Governors Annual Services – Lifetime Achievement Award. Over the last several years he has contributed to efforts focused particularly on addressing issues related to favorable life outcomes of Black males/men and racial reconciliation across the family and community service continuum. As a result of his experiences, efforts, and outcomes, Cozart frequently presents/consults on the subjects of fatherhood, implicit bias, Black male achievement, strengthening families and communities, child maltreatment, and other related matters for conferences, professional development, faith-based agencies, and social service providers. Cozart is a native of Marion, Kentucky, and the son of the late Charles and Eva Hill. He is husband to Nekesha and father to Zachary, Destiny, and Dalen.
