Titus O'Neil and sonsSunday, June 15th is Father’s Day and the Office of Family Assistance (OFA) needs your help as it implements a Father’s Day Thunderclap. Father’s Day is the one day out of the year that fathers have permission to unplug from the internet, put the lawn mower in the shed, put away the paint brush and turn off the alarm.  Each Father’s Day, dads are granted the freedom enjoy doing nothing without feeling guilty.  They’ve earned it! OFA hopes that ACF stakeholders will join us in Thunderclapping for Father’s Day!

What Is Thunderclapping?

Thunderclapping is a new technology where people are asked to join a site and then at a specified time Thunderclap automatically sends identical Tweets or Facebook posts from each member’s account. On Father’s Day OFA’s campaign will result in an explosion of simultaneous tweets, posts and messages across the social media spectrum.  Thunderclap works well for announcing OFA’s 2014 Father’s Day public service announcements and helps achieve ACF’s goal of promoting the economic and social well-being of families, children, and communities.

Roman Reigns and DaughterOFA recognizes and celebrates the important role that fathers play in the lives of their families. From funding the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (NFRC) to providing millions in funding to Responsible Fatherhood grantees that work directly with dads, OFA works to improve the social and economic outcomes of fathers. This year OFA—in partnership with the Ad Council—is extending its reach into communities by hosting a Celebrate Father’s Day with WWE Thunderclap. Simply click on the Celebrate Father’s Day with WWE in order to join OFA’s efforts to bring together individuals from across the nation to virtually send messages of appreciation of dads, while encouraging them to “Take time to be a dad today.”  The OFA Thunderclap is a perfect complement to the 2014 Fatherhood Buzz taking place at barbershops across the country on Saturday, June 14, 2014. During the Fatherhood Buzz, community partners, barbers and families share valuable tools and resources for improving father involvement and celebrating dads.

This year, OFA is adding five new public service announcements that emphasize that the smallest moments can have the biggest impact on a child’s life. This year’s Thunderclap is an innovative and exciting partnership with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) organization and some of its biggest stars of the arena. PSAs from Titus O’Neil, Alberto Del Rio and Roman Reigns are currently available on the NFRC website.  Additionally on Friday, June 13, 2014, OFA will release two additional PSAs with everyday dads.

OFA’s goal is to achieve at least 250 followers for its Thunderclap campaign, so please click on the thunderclap link to be directed to the sign-up site.  OFA encourages everyone to join the campaign, follow us at #fatherhood and #fathersday on Twitter and ‘like’ the Fatherhoodgov page on Facebook as ACF officially celebrates the fathers, the dads, and the pops in the lives of America’s children.

So, this Father’s Day, join OFA in Thunderclapping across the virtual world encouraging fathers to treasure the small, yet precious moments shared with children as they “take time to be a dad today.”
